Audit Readiness Check

If an Inspector Walked In Tomorrow, Could You Prove It?

Pick the audit you face, MSHA, OSHA, DOT or ISO 55000, and answer eight questions about the maintenance records behind it. You get a readiness score, the gaps an inspector would find first and how to close them.

What Inspectors Ask For

What Each Audit Expects Your Maintenance Records to Prove

Different regulators, same problem: the work gets done, but the proof is on paper, in a spreadsheet or in someone’s head. Here is what each one typically wants to see.

AuditWho it applies toWhat your records need to show
MSHAMines, quarries, pits and aggregate operationsPre-shift equipment exams, workplace exam records with the date each adverse condition was corrected, and proof that safety defects were fixed before equipment ran.
OSHAPlants, manufacturing and most general industryWritten lockout/tagout procedures and their periodic inspections, pre-use checks on forklifts, and inspection and test records on equipment covered by PSM.
DOT (FMCSA)Fleets running commercial motor vehiclesA maintenance record for every vehicle, driver inspection reports with repairs signed off, and a current annual inspection on every truck and trailer.
ISO 55000Teams certifying or aligning their asset management systemA criticality-ranked asset register, risk-based maintenance strategy, lifecycle cost, controlled procedures and measured performance.
Common Questions

About the Audit Readiness Check

What is a maintenance audit readiness check?

A quick self-assessment of whether you could produce the maintenance records an inspector or auditor would ask for. Most audit findings are not about work that was skipped. They are about work that was done but cannot be proven.

Which audit should I pick?

The one you are most likely to face next. Mining and aggregate operations usually pick MSHA, plants and manufacturers pick OSHA, fleets running commercial trucks pick DOT, and teams building a formal asset management system pick ISO 55000. You can retake the check for each one.

Does this replace a compliance review?

No. It is a practical self-assessment, not legal or compliance advice. Use it to find the gaps worth fixing, and confirm your exact obligations with the regulator or your safety and compliance team.

How is my score calculated?

Each of the eight questions has four answers, scored from 0 to 3. A higher score means you could prove more, faster. Your total is converted to a score out of 100 and grouped into areas like inspections, defects to repair, scheduled PM, equipment history and procedures.

Do I have to give my email to see the result?

No. Your score, readiness level and top gaps appear on screen as soon as you finish. The form only shows up afterward, if you want a copy of your results emailed to you.
